Varying shifts, weekdays and weekends, and some holiday work required. Long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, data entry/computer work, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions may be required.Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, dangerous and fractious or feral animals, high noise levels, wet surfaces, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects.Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.Peanut butter used throughout the facility.Work performed in shelter medical environment, high exposure to animals, requires animal handling.Knowledge of basic computer software required.High School diploma or equivalent required, certification as Veterinary Assistant preferred.Ability to learn quickly and efficiently.Ability to identify areas of improvement.Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management skills and prioritize workload.Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures and safety standards.Ability to recognize normal and abnormal health and behavior of animals.Commitment to the humane treatment of animals.Assist with medical education of staff, volunteers, and the public.Properly clean, pack, and autoclave all medical/surgical materials.Track and inform Manager when inventories are low, stock and organize pharmacy.Follow established disease control protocols to clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and general medical areas daily.Notify Shelter Veterinarian in emergent medical situations or deterioration of medical conditions. Notate animal behavior during medical assessment and report issues to appropriate staff.Input data for animal medical records, treatments, and medicines for all Shelter animals.Provide support to adopters and foster volunteers regarding medical questions or care.
